Year 2 down the garden. This year’s big hits were definitely the companion plants which swallowed up most of the plot in a sea of orange. Leading stars the teasels (previously noted) and nasturtiums, and also french marigold, tagetes and irrepressable borage.
Of the vegetables, achocha fat babies were equally rampant, burying the yellow climbing beans and a lot of spinach beet. Thirdly the borlotti beans, which grew without fuss, looked fantastic and tasted equally as good (cooked Turkish style). Shout out to enthusiastic cucumbers too, and orange, green and stripey squash – all rolling along in a southerly direction until they hit the fence.
